Amethyst Falcon by Rev. Roger Vaughan
Roger also liked the attractive lines of the Falcon, and
decided to scale up my Peanut-scale plans to 36" (914mm) wingspan as an
electric powered radio-controlled sport
"park flyer". Roger's skills have turned my
Peanut-scale plan into an attractive looking model. He used a
Suppo K2217 950 rpm/V brushless outrunner motor with a 9" x 4.5"
prop. The model weighs 30oz for a wing-loading of 12 oz/sq.ft.
He has also written up his modified plan and construction as an
article for RC Model
World magazine. You can also
purchase Roger's plan through the Traplet Publications web
store. |
CAC CA-6 Wackett Trainer by Don Thie
Don sent me some photos of his Wackett Trainer which he
scaled up for electric power from my Dime-scale plan. It looks
great in it's all-yellow training scheme.

GAF Nomad N22 by Ian Lever
Ian requested some information on the Nomad back in December
2004, and I sent what I had. Then I heard back from him in September
2005 that the model was finished. Here is Ian's description:
"I scaled your plan up to 48" span, it is powered by 2x 300
geared motors. Flight testing so far has shown a tendency to
tip stall and I am going to introduce some more washout to correct
this."
"I am pleased with the way the model turned out, I have made a
number of modifications to your plan to assist with the scaling
up; the nose is planked, I have introduced additional
fuselage formers to support the stringers, the fuselage has been
changed to allow the wing to be knocked off easily. I am going
to make the wheels retractable in the future.
She weighs 600 grams (21oz). I initially used 7 500ar
cells but have now moved onto a 2 cell 900mah li-poly pack to
reduce the weight. I have fitted a speed control and timer
to limit the flight times. I did initial trimming under radio
control with micro radio gear."

GAF Nomad N22 by Nguyen Thanh Luan
I heard from Nguyen Thanh Luan in November 2004 that he had built a Nomad from my plans. Here is his description:
"Wing span is 711 mm . The wing is detachable for travelling. I used Feima electric motors (6.0 V) and 5 x Feima 150mAh Ni-MH 1/3AAA batteries. I will fly it soon. The
take off weight is 124g. I think it is HEAVY (but I did my best to keep it light as much as possible). I also found that the wing airfoil of this GAF N22 Nomad is NACA 23018."

Southern Cross Aviation SC-1
Here are some photos of the construction of my own Southern
Cross Aircraft SC-1. The model is covered in
white and orange Airspan. I used a Gizmo Geezer freewheeler, shown in
the image with the nose block removed. The canopy was cut from
Easter-egg packaging of the right size.
